Cattle Drives start in the morning (usually at 9:00) from our Ranch Headquarters at Clements, KS. The drive length and activities included will vary from drive to drive depending on what the herd needs at the time. They are typically 8 – 10 miles long through pastures and along country roads and will take 3 – 4 hours. We will be driving between 50 and 150 head of Longhorn Cattle through some of the most scenic areas of the Flint Hills.

Flying W owns all of the horses that we use on the ranch. Our horses are seasoned veterans that have been used extensively on the ranch for cattle work. Many of our horses are born and spend their entire lives here.

The drives take place rain or shine.

What is included

Ranch owners and hosts, Josh, Gwen, and Josie Hoy will provide a campfire and s'mores the evening before, accommodations for a comfortable night sleep, morning breakfast, a horse, tack and guide for the drive and a hearty lunch prepared by Cowboy Chef, Josh Hoy, at the end of the drive.
(Note: No supper will be provided by the Flying W Ranch the evening before the drive.)

Jim Hoy, Josh’s father, who is a Professor at Emporia State University often joins in and shares his knowledge of the Cowboy Culture and the Flint Hills history.
