Controlled burning of the tallgrass prairie is a natural and productive way to keep the shrinking grassland habitat vibrant and healthy. At the Flying W Ranch we provide a unique opportunity for the public to participate in this important activity. Each spring we identify a portion of our 7,000 acre ranch to be burned in a controlled way. Participants of the Flames in the Flint Hills event actively light and manage both a day and a night-time burn. See additional information about the next event here: 2017 Flames in the Flint Hills.
We have had so much interest in this very unique event that we felt the need to create a page so we could share our stories, pictures and memories. Here are a few links from our prior visitors. If you have images or a story you would like to share, please send it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org . We love sharing the fun with everyone.
